Alice Quaresma works with photography, but rarely stops there. Drawn to materials for their familiarity and imperfections, she pushes the medium past the camera into something closer to touch. Born in Rio de Janeiro and based in London, she has spent over two decades photographing and building an archive of negatives and digital files to match. Alice’s practise evolves around the idea of a home in constant motion and nature as a place of belonging.

Some of Alice’s career awards include the Photoworks, Aperture Foundation Summer Open, Houston Center for Photography, Foam Talent and PS122 NYC.

Alice’s latest exhibitions has taken place at Patrick Heide Contemporary (London), galeria Silvia Cintra + Box4 (Rio de Janeiro), Sobering galerie (Paris), Pablo’s Birthday gallery (New York), including her solo institution shows at Caixa Cultural São Paulo (Brazil).

The artist has also created special projects for various organisations, such as Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Hermès, Air France, Gap and Red Bull. Her work has been published at São Paulo Biennial platform, Fisheye magazine, Exit Magazine, Foam Magazine, Extra Fotographie in Context, Edicola, IMA, Serafina, Lens Culture, and Artsy, among others. Quaresma holds a BFA from Central Saint Martins, UAL (London) and an MFA from Pratt Institute (New York).
